Designed to help children and teens ages 5-18 maintain the literacy skills they acquired during the school year, Dig Into Reading and Beneath the Surface offer a variety of activities and programs in a fun learning environment. Jacksonville Public Library's Summer Reading Program encourages children and youth to read by offering a wide selection of books, contests, music and crafts that are all based on popular stories. The Jacksonville Public Library Summer Reading Program runs June 1 through August 16.

Children and teens in the Summer Reading Program can earn a free book just by registering online and logging the books read. Registration begins June 1, 2013. To be eligible, children from birth to 12 must read at least 10 books. After August 1, print out the book log on the registration site or bring in your paper log and show it to a librarian to pick out a free book. Limit one book per child, while supplies last.

Tweens and teens from 12 to 18 can earn free books just by registering online and logging and reviewing the books read. Each branch holds a weekly tween/teen drawing for free books and more.
