Purpose: Irrevocably intertwined with Jacksonville's past, present and future, the St. John's River represents an economic engine, source of leisure and object of beauty all at once. The citizens who live here deserve to be aware of the heritage that the St. Johns brings to Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Public Library's role in support of Mayor Peyton's River Accord initiative is what we do best - supply access to information. JPL is spearheading the "Year of the River." Each month, from April 2009 through March 2010, library locations will be featuring programs, exhibits or services related to the St. Johns River.

All Month - Main Library Exhibit: The River As We See It hosted by Environmental Services, Inc.
14 - Storytime on the River: A Family Adventure sponsored by the Jacksonville Public Library in partnership with the St. Johns Riverkeeper departs @ the Landing - 9:30 AM
15 - Lunchtime Lecture: History of the St. Johns River @ the Main Library - 12 PM
22 - Save the River @ the Main Library Teen Department - 3 PM
29 - Lunchtime Lecture: Manatees of the St. Johns @ the Main Library - 12 PM

5 - Night of the River Soirée
Hosted by the Jacksonville Public Library and JAXPORT in partnership with The Florida Ballet & WJCT @ the Main Library - 6 PM
12 - City of Bridges, a documentary film on the history of Jacksonville's bridges in partnership with WJCT @ the Main Library - 6 PM
28 - 2009 Environmental Symposium hosted by the Environmental Protection Board and UNF @ UNF University Center - 8 AM
