Computer Classes, 2011-2012
Many library locations have classes on using personal computers. Class topics range from learning how to use the mouse and keyboard to using the library's catalog to tips and techniques about Microsoft Word. Space for classes is limited to the number of computers in the lab where the class is hosted, so please pre-register for the class(es) you wish to take.

PC Basics 1:
Begin learning the basic terms about computers and computer use. Learn to use a mouse to find your way around a web site.
Dates: 2012 - February 7, March 6, April 3, May 1, June 5, July 3, August 7, September 4
PC Basics 2:
Follow up session for students who have completed PC Basics; students must know how to use a mouse and navigate a
web site. Begin learning about the Internet, World Wide Web, browsers, search engines and how to do effective searching
Dates: 2012 - February 14, March 13, April 10, May 8, June 12, July 10, August 14, September 11
PC Basics 3 (series):
Build on lessons from PC Basics 1 and 2. Students must know how to use a mouse and navigate a web site.
Covers a variety of topics aimed to introduce participants to useful internet-based resources.
Dates: 2012:
July 17 - Introduction to Internet Safety, Security and Evaluating Websites
(how to avoid web scams, browsing with confidence and determining if a website is safe and secure)
February 21 & August 21 - Introduction to Social Networking
(The basics of the world of social networking--Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Goodle+, etc.)
March 20 & September 18 - Secure online shopping
(Covers the basic e-commerce process and how to navigate some popular direct sales and auction sites)
April 17 - Top Online Resources during Tough Times
(Web-based portals related to practical/useful applications--legit free sites, consumer rights, money-saving tips, etc.)
May 15 - Beyond Email: Enhanced, web-based communication technology
(instant messaging, videoconferencing/calling, VOIP--i.e. Skype, Google Voice, YM, etc.)
June 19 - Multimedia and the Internet
(basics of uploading and downloading, photo/video sharing, video and music entertainment--i.e. Flickr, YouTube, Pandora, etc.)
Introduction to Microsoft Word
Learn how to find and open Microsoft Word, explore the toolbar, create, save, print, open and edit a
document, cut, copy, paste and attach a document to an e-mail.

Create a free personal e-mail account on Gmail and begin sending and receiving e-mail. Practice sending and receiving e-mail
and attaching files to your e-mail; learn how to organize and format your e-mail.
