Florida Dwight Collection![]() Florida Dwight, 1895-1977 FLORIDA C. DWIGHT was the first director of parks and recreation for Negroes in the city of Jacksonville, Florida. She began working at Oakland playground on July 4, 1918. Mrs. Dwight was a key player in the expansion of recreational facilities in the African American community, enlisting the help of the citizens to acquire and equip LaVilla playground and Wilder Park.
